The Orange Bowl in January was Branden Ore's final game as a Hokie. Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced today that the running back is no longer on the football team.

"During recent meetings with Branden Ore, we have decided that it would be best for Branden to pursue other opportunities," Beamer said in a statement released by the school.

Ore started in 13 of 14 games last season and led the Hokies with 992-yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.

It was a sluggish junior season compared to Ore's sophomore campaign when he posted 1,137 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns on his way to first team All-ACC honors.

With Ore's departure, the running back spot is wide open for Kenny Lewis Jr., Jahre Cheeseman, Josh Oglesby, Darren Evans and incoming freshman Ryan Williams.
